One of the most interesting characters in this novel is Jacob Swann. 'There is a lot discussion about the animals and their emotions, whether they mourn or feel love. She says its "real" sounding. Some of it was not translated and you can get the same conclusion by studying the scripture. Barcus is assisted by the Emergency Module, Em, his most useful tool. Very compelling, very well written. The basics are simple, but the details are always nice to have.
